WHY HAS 87% OF ICELANDIC FILM CENTRE FUNDING GONE TO MEN?
It's a cold cold world for women filmmakers in Iceland.
In conjunction with our participation in the 2015 Reyjavik Arts Festival in Iceland (May 13-June 7, 2015) we created a new project for a billboard that calls out Iceland's National Film Centre by asking the question: Why has 87% of Icelandic Film Centre funding gone to men?
From 2000-2012 only 13% of film funded by the Icelandic Film Centre were made by women. We think that an entity that was established for the sole purpose of supporting domestic filmmaking can only fulfill its mandate by actually funding the work of half its domestic population. Send a message to Laufey Gudjónsdóttir, director of the Film Centre, demanding that support go to Iceland's women filmmakers!
